San Diego, CA– On Thursday, September 24, 2015, former professional soccer player Hugo Sánchez will announce the launch of The Hugo Sánchez Soccerland Foundation.Hugo Sánchez is a world known professional soccer coach and former world class soccer player who played in teams from Mexico, USA, Spain and Austria. He is considered Mexico’s greatest-ever and most successful Mexican soccer player by far to have played anywhere, in terms of years played, goal scoring and achievements.His foundation is committed to giving youth from San Diego and surrounding communities the skills, motivation, inspiration and confidence to reach their full potential through soccer programs.
Hugo Sánchez knows that playing soccer positively touches people’s lives, inspires healthy habits, and enricheschildren’s learning, “The game of soccer has made me who I am today. I have achieved success doing what I love most, playing soccer. My lifelong experiences have inspired me to create The Hugo Sanchez Soccerland Foundation,” says Hugo.“I want to create a place where children and teens can learn to not only the skills to play soccer, but the skills of leadership, sportsmanship and discipline.”
The location of Hugo Sánchez Soccerland will be in San Diego, utilizing Southern California’stemperate weather and allowing for soccer to be practiced year round. Construction of the soccer complex facilities will begin inearly 2016. An estimated 10 million dollars will be raised through fundraising and capital campaign efforts to build the first phase.An estimated 40 million will be needed to complete the entire project.
Plans for the project include indoor facilities and outdoor fields to allow practices, games and tournaments to be held one place and will accommodate all ages. Additional features will include conference and seminar rooms, classrooms, a library and gymnasium. The newly created soccer fields will serve as the home field site for the Foundation’s own soccer teams and will also be used by other soccer clubs.
A variety of unique soccer programming willbe provided to fill the needs of all ages and abilities. Hugo Sánchez will promote and support the personal and athletic development of youth in San Diego, Tijuana and surrounding areas with his knowledge and specialization about the best methods to teach the sport of soccer. Youth,regardless of income,will be afforded the opportunity to learn, be inspired and thrive through his soccer programs.
The Hugo Sanchez Soccerland Foundation plans to sponsor and organize a sixty team soccer league (750 young players) for children at no cost to participants. Two soccer clinicstaught at all levels of skills and abilities will be led by active and former soccer players and coaches.
